Apartment Hunt Weekend: Part I
Friday night us three started our evening around 8 with some supper. We were on our way to pizza on the strip and decided to eat at Mugsys on the west end of town. Both girls had been there before. They split a pizza and I had a delicious cheeseburger. This burger had a “scoop” of “cheddar cheese” on it. It was a red “cheese” that had a creamy consistency. The...

Exciting Weekend
Beth, Holly, & I are driving down to Nashville Saturday morning to scope out some rental property we are interested in, see where Beth’s interview is, and supposedly drink a Cosmopolitan. I have a modest hotel reserved near the center of town but its too far to walk to some of our viewings. We’re currently scheduled to see a real loft, an apartment in a complex with loft in its...
Real Estate Ads
I have looked at many listings for apartments, condos, lofts, townhouses, lofts, homes, duplexes, & triplexes in the last month. Thanks craigslist!
I don’t know what these landlords/realtors were thinking when they posted certain listings that have terrible pictures and information. Many of them are for large complexes and don’t show any photos of the actual space. A pool and a...
Obama is an Adult →
During a fund-raiser in Denver, Obama —a former constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago Law School — was asked what he hoped to accomplish during his first 100 days in office. “I would call my attorney general in and review every single executive order issued by George Bush and overturn those laws or executive decisions that I feel violate the constitution,” said Obama.

A Call, Not "The" Call
The recruiter called me and let me know that they are still checking my references (or maybe even haven’t started yet?) and I should have an offer on Monday. He sounded even more positive than the last time I spoke to him and said everything he could to reassure me short of saying “I have the job.” I can relate to his position because he certainly can’t promise me anything...

Sleep Poison
I looked at the clock right before 6. In that short period of consciousness I had a handful of thoughts coming right at my head trying to rob me of my sleepy time.
“What apartments do you like? Why hasn’t Nashville called you yet? Will Beth get her job?”
Those thoughts invaded my head and brought me out of the deep sleep I was in. Damn thoughts… They’re like sleep...
The Miracle Fruit, a Tease for the Taste Buds →
“Nearby, Yuka Yoneda tilted her head back as her boyfriend, Albert Yuen, drizzled Tabasco sauce onto her tongue. She swallowed and considered the flavor: “Doughnut glaze, hot doughnut glaze!” … The miracle fruit, Synsepalum dulcificum, is native to West Africa and has been known to Westerners since the 18th century. The cause of the reaction is a protein called miraculin, which binds...

Lost Remote
I couldn’t find the television’s remote control this morning. I stick to NBC in the mornings so it wasn’t a big deal but at lunch I flip between Travel Chancel, FX, & Food Network. What will I do?!?

Waiting to Pull the Trigger
I don’t expect to hear anything from Nashville till Thursday morning, mostly because the three day weekend had to set them back and I’m certainly not their top priority.
As soon as I get that call I’m going to purchase a GPS receiver. My two choices are the Garmin 350 and the TomTom ONE XL-S and I have went back and forth a couple times today. The Garmin is praised but...

Sucked In
Beth & I share one Netflix queue and often can’t agree on movies to add to our queue. So we both add what we want to see and alternate weekly. This afternoon we entered the world of High School Musical for the first time and it wasn’t that bad! It didn’t have the 20 minute basketball scenes like other movies and it wasn’t full of juvenile jokes. Making a movie that...
Porn Director
Yesterday I told Beth, Josh, & Jennifer that I felt like a porno director when I was commanding them to kiss, instructing how to kiss, and suggesting where to put their hands.

5/3
I woke at 8 on the day of wedding, ate a bowl of oatmeal, and took a shower. The church needed to be opened at 9 for the girls to begin make up and for the flowers to get delivered. So I buzzed up there to unlock the place and help Burklands get the flowers inside.
Then I went back home to get into my monkey suit. I was ready before Dad & Travis and used my extra time to organize all the...

Update From Recruiter
The recruiter just called and let me know that the feedback he got from the two guys I talked to earlier was very positive. Now the employer will be checking my references thoroughly and be getting back to myself and the recruiter next week. I asked what the next step would be and apparently I’m done with interviewing. It sounds like I’ll be given an offer or turned away. I was...

Interview #345 & #346
I talked to two guys that were out of the office last Friday. Both manage all things technical but aren’t programmers. We talked a lot about the development process I work with now and what they both use. The second interview had a lot of questions about what I like and dislike. Being frank and him very understanding made me feel good. These guys are going to talk with those that I met last...

More Chicken Counting
Today I came across a place downtown to live. I could walk to the Farmer’s Market!
I also took a little time to research Nashville’s bus system. It appears to be pretty extensive. One route runs right in front of my potential office building and three blocks away from the place I found.
It is $65 for a 31 day pass. Today Beth paid $50 to fill her tank. You do the math.
Elusive Thin Pizza
Last night I made a batch of pizza dough that I hope will finally help me conquer the elusive thin pizza. The recipe calls for it to rise in the fridge 24-48 hours which is a step I’ve never taken before. I also will be rolling it out between parchment paper and plastic wrap. I trust the guys at Cook’s Illustrated. I’ll talk about them some other day.

Real Estate, Budgets, & Uncertainty
Beth & I don’t want to jinx ourselves by over planning for a move to Nashville but we also can’t wait to do the work till I am offered the position and have two weeks to move. There is a balance which is actually pretty easy to achieve due to the many unknown monetary variables, i.e. my salary, Beth’s salary, Beth’s student loan bill (She just consolidated and we...
