You're 25, time to grow up.
On a whole, I disagree with the point of this list. The audience is obviously white middle class America. Growing up doesn’t mean fitting into some ridiculous mold. Ettiquette and the idea of “what’s expected” of a person is completely laced in traditions that people continue to blindly practice because that’s just what you do.
I hold this opinion rather firmly, but I’m quite confident I’m a decent person at 22 and will be one at 25 regardless if I can manage to accommodate the demands of this bogus to do list.
I would like to quote one of the twenty points made but there are too many that I would like to point out to people.
I’ll concede that some of the points are nothing more than pet peeves of the author that are of little importance to growing up. Perhaps I have an interest in this list because the youngest coworker of mine was fired Friday and he didn’t meet a handful of these points that I believe are important. For example,
- 5. Be on time
- 6. Have enough money.
- 10. Have at least one good dress-up outfit.
- 16. Drinking until you throw up is no longer properly a point of pride.
Everyone isn’t going to follow these rules/suggestions/peeves consistently but I don’t believe someone could successfully argue that they shouldn’t be followed often especially for people in professional working environments.
A few other points from the list I like and apply to everyone are
- 4. Develop a physical awareness of your surroundings
- 7. Know how to calculate the tip
- 12. Know how
- 19. Take care of yourself.
