Loft Surprises
No matter how long your inspect a new living space, there will always be surprises that are discovered after you move in. For example our shower curtain rod is hung too high for our old curtain. After a few days I realized it was hung that high to avoid getting hit by the bathroom door. I’m in the process of moving it down and getting a door stopper to avoid collision. But this minor setback was countered with the garbage room across the hallway from us. Instead of lugging trash downstairs we put it in cans in this room and someone else takes it down. It couldn’t be better.
I thought the provided wireless service was adequate but I discovered the numerous networks and brick walls make most of the signals fluctuate rapidly. In a perfect world I would use our Airport Express to network the laptop and desktop machines. I thought that would be easy since the AE can extend or relay a wireless signal. Unfortunately this is only for other Apple wireless products and a few other brands that support WDS. At the moment I’m using the AE to connect to the property’s network and the iMac is connected to it as an Ethernet client. The laptop can connect from the living room but as I said earlier the signal drops frequently. I plan on trying to use an old Belkin router to join the wireless network and then connect the AE to it in hopes I can broadcast the signal that way. If that worked then I would gain 6.81 geek points and not feel bad for keeping the old router around.
