I have written less since I moved my blog to the Tumblr platform because it is much easier for me to reblog other people’s content than write my own. I want to change this by sharing more of what I’m thinking with big-boy sentences and multiple paragraphs. Gasp!
I have recognized this deficiency for months but haven’t devised a plan. This problem is similar to the type of problems I face daily as a programmer. I am usually given a task that needs to be broken down into subtasks/classes/scripts/migrations/cupcake runs/templates/etc. Facing the problem as a whole is daunting but listing the steps needed to complete the project makes the work manageable & more clear to understand. All programmers work, or should work, this way and I believe that non-technical people can benefit from the logical thought process that is used to design software and debug technical problems but expecting people to think more logically is out of the scope of my thoughts this morning.
I suspect I may have stopped writing is because the topics at the forefront of my mind are pet peeves that cause me to have a gut reaction of yelling without thinking about the petty differences I have with other people. Since I have started aggregating my blog content on Facebook, www.neuski.com has become more exposed to a more people. I’m excited to have more friends read about my life but there is a greater chance I am going to piss off a friend when I tell you about a coworker who bought a salad spinner, per my recommendation, and uses it to store pre-washed lettuce. I know where the line between poking fun and insulting lie so I shouldn’t be scared to approach it with my words. I need to set a goal for myself about what I want to begin writing. An original post a week is easy but I would like to see a handful. How many blog posts can your hand hold? I have big hands so I might fit 3-4 large ones and 4-5 smaller posts.
If you follow my life you may believe I am in a holding pattern because I haven’t written a lot but that isn’t true! My life isn’t as exciting as it was when I moved to Nashville but I am still exploring new places in this city every week that excite me. Last week I rode my bicycle to a new greenway that outlined beautiful, rolling pastures and multiple rivers. My life excites me and I should be sharing that as much as I was in the past.
Please hold me accountable for these wishes. If I continue posting more photos of food and kittens with clever captions, encourage me to write.
