Last night I baked 6 cookies from a frozen log we had from our last batch. We ate four which left two. I packed up these two cookies in my nom nom nom bag because I knew Beth would grab them if I didn’t.
This morning Beth asked about these cookies. I responded, “I’m pulling rank! They’re in my lunch bag.” At this point I didn’t think she understood how difficult it is to keep Fat Tyler happy. I knew I pushed a button but we continued to joke about it. I didn’t feel too bad because Beth had scolded me for talking to her when she was making breakfast for herself. I was telling a story much earlier than she was ready to hear any story. So she asked me to stop talking till 6:20 and compared my story to a recitation of “The Gettysburg Address”.
She walked out the door a few minutes before me. I met Norris, our buildings janitor, when I made it to the parking lot. (Norris may be the friendliest person I have ever met. He always has a smile to share. He bikes which has led to a handful of conversations as I have been walking through the halls with my bike.) He told me that Beth had said “I’m not waiting for him!” as she left. I questioned if she really did say this. He responded, “No. She loves you, man.” I acknowledged this but told him I had anticipated walking out the door with her. He then described how women will get up and go without any warning but men have a more fluid preparation. I added that they do something without any warning. We were on the same page.
When I got to my car I saw this note Beth had scratched into my rear window’s frost. Ahhhh!
I still don’t regret taking the cookies. They will be delicious. She gets two snacks a day with her kids too!
