Duo of Summer
Beth & I were watching a backyard being redeveloped on HGTV during one of the many hours we spent with the channel last weekend. I told Beth how one of my favorite types of moments is the end of a summary day after working on the lawn or garden all day. A dark, coolness introduces the evening. The garden is tilled and watered. The lawn is gorgeous. You want to sit down with a cool drink and soak in the beautiful landscape. It has been many years since I have experienced that feeling.
My second summer thought came during Church on Sunday morning when the sun peeked around a cloud and came through the stained glass. That bright light took me back to Southern Illinois on Von Jakob’s orchard deck. A glass of wine in my hand and a handful of bread soaked in oil in my mouth. Then I started thinking about a weekend there and what I missed. Most of the thoughts turned to food but that is nothing new.
I miss running in shorts, SATCO’s porch, & riding my bike.
