I rode my bike this morning but not exactly how I had in the past.

First, I attached my messenger bag on my rack to reduce the stress on my back. Strapping a 15” MacBook Pro, clothes to change into, and other nuggets across my back in a messenger bag not designed for cycling is an unpleasant riding experience. The bag doesn’t stay where I need it to and pulls on my shoulder. Moving it was a great step but I didn’t have the hardware to optimally secure it. I settled hanging it on the side of the rack like a saddle bag. This made my bike lopsided and a I hit it often with my heel. It was an improvement and this weekend I will get it mounted differently.

I also took a different way to work thanks to Google’s new cycling routes. I drove the suggested route this week and was disappointed to see it take me over a huge hill and down an inaccessible alley. I tweaked the route by a few blocks and was able to increase my time on back roads. So much of my energy goes into taking off from a stoplight. The new path less physically and mentally stressful.

I haven’t checked out Google’s suggested return path in my car so the ride home should be interesting.
