11/28/08 Grand Ole Opry

The Meyers, Beth, & I walked down to the Ryman Auditorium last night for the Friday Night Opry which also was the 83rd anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry. We had decent seats on the first floor. Next time I may look into getting balcony seats.

The show was really great. I learned about a few artists from the past and enjoyed the indescribable feelings associated with an institution like the Opry. Highlights for me was the two bluegrass groups, Charlie Daniels, Darius Rucker, & Charley Pride.

I used my 70-210 Nikon E Series lens. I had only played a few other times with it. At f/4 I had to jack up my ISO to 1600 which looks pretty bad on my d40. But I still had a good time shooting, at least enough for me to keep the lens around.

For the record, Charlie Daniels is amazing. He ran out on stage singing Drinkin’ My Baby Goodbye and everyone went ape shit. After his Christmas song he fiddle-teased us by asking something along the lines of “Am I supposed to play one more?” Everyone erupts again as he played The Devil Went Down To Georgia for the 13,948th time. Bill Anderson walked back on stage and said, “You’re crazy if you think I’m going to follow that.”
